The NM Girls Institute incorporates the 11 New Mexico Skills for Life, recommended by the Governor’s Workforce Coordination and Oversight Committee, into their curricula.  (www.workinnewmexico.gov)

Leadership in Action Institutes

Interested in having a Leadership in Action Institute for your school or organization?

The Leadership in Action Series offers professional free workshops at your location.  The six-hour institutes can accommodate between 20-50 girls.  The NM Girls Institute provides all supplies and curriculum along with promotional materials.  All of the Institutes are based on best-practice models, fun and interactive, and provide hands-on experiences.

Leadership 101 – This workshop offers girls an overview of leadership skills. Identifying leadership qualities, styles, values and purpose are discussed in this interactive session. Goal Setting/Goal Getting – When one sets and achieves a goal they experience an increased sense of self-worth, foster their ability to make consistent decisions and shows their understanding of developing a foundation for their well-being.



T.G.I.F. : Thank Goodness I’m Female-Girls are particularly vulnerable to low self-esteem in our competitive culture. There is tremendous pressure to look and be a certain way but then be ashamed of our femininity. This workshop encourages girls to embrace the fact they are girls – and there is a world out there waiting for them!



Get a Life: Career Exploration for Teenage Girls – Don’t know what you want to be when you grow up? Don’t know what career best matches your skills and abilities? This workshop is for you! The highly interactive workshop will provide girls with many tools that assist them in reflecting on where their strengths lie and what career goal might be their best fit!



Girl Talk: Communication Skills for Teenage Girls – Communication skills are essential whether at school, in personal relationships or on the job. Teaching girls to organize their thoughts and communicate more effectively will make them more effective.



No More Frogs to Kiss: Entrepreneurial Skills – This workshop shows girls how to develop their own talents and creative ideas in finding their entrepreneurial spirit. Interactive and fun, this workshop shows girls how to success in business, meet business women in the community and learn that business is both fun and profitable.



Beyond Babysitting: Effective Job Skills- Resume writing, preparing for a successful job interview and learning good employee habits on will help girls prepare for the jobs of the future – and right now! Whether at the local fast food restaurant or a retail store, girls need the right skills to be successful at the right job. The workshop talks about interview etiquette, proper attire and how to write an attention grabbing resume! Stand out from the others when applying for your next job!



Choices and Challenges: Successful Transition from Middle School to High School – High school means big changes! There will be more expected from you and more choices to make. This gender-specific workshop assists girls develop skills and techniques to keep focus on herself, her education and her goals.



Transitions: Preparing for College – Preparing for one of life’s biggest transitions, this workshop is geared towards high school sophomores and juniors with college on their mind. Topics covered include laying the high school foundation for successful college life and skills for surviving the first year of college.



Drama Free Zone* -- Geared toward middle school girls, this workshop helps girls communicate effectively and efficiently with one another. Participants will learn about relational aggression and their role in “Girl World”, developing empathy and how to identify unequal power in relationships. Finally, girls will explore their own feelings and the positive effects of female relationships. This workshop is intended to raise awareness and promote healthy relationships and not take the place of the need for counseling intervention in situations of relational aggression and/or bullying.



* The NM Girl Institute also offers a 2 hour introductory informational session on relational aggression for teachers, staff and parents.



Safe @ Work – Sexual Harassment of Teens – This highly informative workshop will teach girls to recognize the difference between flirting and sexual harassment, how to keep themselves safe on the job and what to do if a situation makes them uncomfortable. The PBS DVD “Is Your Daughter Safe at Work?” helps girls understand the severity of sexual harassment in the work place – whether they are the target or a bystander.
